In a non-emergency situation, you can often still be in pain, and you can make yourself believe that you should just go to a doctor at the emergency department.
But since patients are triaged at the emergency department, it may be more efficient if you go to see your regular doctor instead. This is because the triage nurse sorts all patients according to their level of need, not by their arrival time at the hospital. If you have a non-emergency and go to the emergency department anyways, this could mean quite a bit of waiting for you.
The advantages of going to your regular medical centre for treatment in a non-emergency situation include getting to go to the same doctor for follow-up treatment, shorter waiting times, and letting those patients that are suffering from true emergency conditions to be seen by a doctor as quickly as possible. Even if you can’t make it to your local doctor, there are still after hours medical centres that may be a better option to you in a non-emergency situation than visiting your local emergency department.
