Digital art display at Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital

14 May 2021

Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation is proud to support Contact Trace, a digital artwork, free to the public,
19-23 May 2021, from twilight to 11pm.

Bold stories, edgy and vibrant moving-images will transform Sydney’s secret-nooks, sandstone lane-ways and colonial buildings. The exhibition at the Hospital is one of three world premieres of site-specific light-artworks, called ‘Curated Stories in Light’, presented by illuminart Australia, North Productions, in partnership with City of Sydney.

From twilight, experience projections of award-winning contemporary photography, lyrical paintings and slam poetry. Share First Nation’s stories, hear women call for a loving revolution and experience a cinematic portal into the future.

Join the adventure, visit three free, new artistic installations and rediscover Sydney’s CBD on a 1 km trail.

Contact Trace at Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital

Hundreds of photographs captured in Sydney during the year of the pandemic will be projected onto the hospital's historic southern archway, at 8 Macquarie Street entrance. This cinematic, futuristic portal traverses the real and imaginary with tales of humanity, fear and hope by photographer John Janson-Moore, composer Andrée Greenwell and producer Jacqui North.

John Janson-Moore is a visual artist, photographer and filmmaker. His work is a finalist for the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2021. He was a collaborative artist of the Sydney Biennale 2020 and won the Moran Prize for Contemporary Photography 2013.

Composer Andrée Greenwell is known for her ground-breaking music theatre and multidisciplinary works, having written over 100 scores including for Sydney Theatre Company, Symphony Australia, Australian Dance Theatre, Bell Shakespeare, and Queensland Music Festival.

Producer Jacqui North creates dynamic, collaborative cultural events and videos.

‘Bungaree’ at Angel Place

Artist Leanne Tobin, a Dharug descendent, shares powerful First Contact stories on colonial sandstone walls. Inviting meditation in Angel Place, Leanne’s work will be projected where the Tank Stream flowed and Gadigal people crafted stone tools. Bungaree of the Garigal clan (Broken Bay) was a teenager when the First Fleet sailed through the heads; he became a diplomat, interpreter and witty mimic of the colonials. Bungaree and his wives moved freely in the new colony in the 1800’s, trading peaches and produce. He circumnavigated this country with the Royal Navy but unlike Captain Flinders and his cat, there is no statue for Bungaree.

‘Love & Revolution’ at 47 George St, Tallawoladah/The Rocks
